Painting References for WWII Aircraft

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about resources for WWII aircraft color schemes and markings. First of all, Google is your friend. One trick I’ve learned is to look up plastic model sites, find the plane I’m looking for, then look at the picture or box cover of the model kit. Second, just type in the name of the plane you’re looking for on Google, add “photo” as your second word, and you should get plenty of pictures.

Osprey Publishing is another source. They have several different series of aircraft books (Aces, Squadrons and Combat Aircraft books come to mind). Squadron/Signals publications also has a number of great reference guides.

Also, check out the bargain books section at Border’s. I have picked up several wonderful color plate books there for $10 or less.
