Friday Night at the Ranch

Another masterful Skip Peterson game on the Plains took place Friday night. Ivor and I were the defenders of a doomed ranch.

A right peaceful ranch...sure it is.

I commanded two sections of the 7th Cavalry, who stood tough and did their duty, but the Indians must have found a copy of Sun Tzu’s Art of War because they moved dispersed and then concentrated in one fell swoop right in the middle of the ranch. Gunfire was everywhere (helped along by the sound effects of three iPhones with shotgun sound effects). A wild swirling melee ensued around the buildings of the ranch. My two sections of troopers initially took up flanking positions on the mesas to either side of the ranch. On the one flank, I was forced to mount up and enter the melee to save the ranchers. On the other side, a marksman ship contest between my section of dismounted troopers and Indian braves ducking in the rocks, mesas and ranch fenceline left a lot of dead Indians and several wounded troopers. In the end, superior tactics won the day and the troopers and wounded ranchers were overwhelmed.

Wild melee at the ranch. The war chief stands in the middle, slapping his warriors buttocks for encouragement lol.

A great time was had by all as usual. Skip continues to refine his rules and the playability/fun element continues to increase. We are considering playtesting these rules with Zulu warfare as well.
